The first six months for our engineering graduate trainees consist of comprehensive CAD and other systems training, extensive Japanese language training and an induction into Toyota’s business and engineering philosophies.

Succeeding with Toyota requires developing design skills that are no longer tied to geography. All designers will benefit from a global expertise to design cars with international appeal and local relevance.

To help our engineers fully understand The Toyota Way of engineering and to help broaden and deepen their technical skills, many of our engineers generally spend up to 2 years out of every 5 years of their career working in Toyota locations overseas.

Overseas Assignments

Every year many of our engineers travel to other countries to undertake overseas assignments - or as we call them Intra-Company Transfers (ICTs). In spite of our short company history, already our engineers have completed numerous ICT assignments; the majority in Japan, but also in Thailand and the US. The first ICT assignment for our engineering graduate trainees is usually located at the Global Technical Center in Japan where they gain familiarity with specific design projects and the Toyota approach to global automotive design and development.

For our support and administration staff, tailored development programs combining on-the-job training and targeted courses are provided, as we are committed to ensuring that all of our employees reach their potential.

Graduate Training Program

Every year our company recruits new trainee engineers – maybe you... As one of our new staff members, you would participate in a 6-month structured graduate training program that comprises the following elements.

1. CAD Training
You receive extensive CATIA-training. This provides you with the fundamental technical skills you will need to succeed as a Toyota engineer.

2. Toyota Way Training
Toyota’s problem solving and decision-making processes are world renowned. Not only do you participate in Toyota training programs, you also observe the Toyota Way of design engineering in the workplace.

3. Japanese Language Training
To enhance the quality of communication between our local Australian engineers and their counterparts in Japan, our new engineers will be trained to attain a conversational level of Japanese. Ongoing Japanese training will be a feature of their career at Toyota.
